Important update:
The 11th Congressional District Republican Convention for 2010 has been cancelled. (The event had been scheduled for Sat., May 22, at West Springfield High School.)

Reasons for cancellation: The primary purpose of the District Convention was to elect the District Chairman for 2010-12. Since only one candidate filed, the Convention is not necessary for that purpose. The other major objective was to provide a forum for the Republican candidates for Congress in the 11th District. However, scheduling problems have precluded their appearance at the Convention.

Refunds available: The District Committee greatly appreciates the interest of those who signed up as delegates through their local committees earlier this year. Any delegate may request a refund of the $20 District filing fee. Requests may be submitted by email to .

Be sure to vote! The GOP nominee for Congress will be selected in the Republican primary on Tue., June 8. We encourage all Republican voters in the 11th District to vote in this primary election!

BACKGROUND:
The District Convention is part of the biennial reorganization of local GOP organizations around Virginia. Every two years, Republicans in each city and county elect a new local committee and party chairman. They also select delegates to a Convention for that Congressional District, which elects a District GOP Chairman.

The general provisions for the convention are adopted by the District Committee. For details on the 2010 Convention, see the official convention call (PDF document, ~20 kb.).

Convention delegates:
Any registered voter in the 11th District, who is in accord with the principles of the Republican party, may file to become a delegate to the District Convention, a delegate to the State Convention, or both, as well as a member of the local unit committee. There are many delegate and committee positions available for each locality.

Filing: To attend the District Convention as a voting delegate, or to join a local Committee, you must sign up through your local Republican Committee by the local filing deadline. Each unit committee adopted a filing schedule in early 2010. Filing forms are available from the local committees (follow links below). There is a mandatory $20 filing fee for delegates, which helps to cover the costs of the District Convention.

Convention candidates:
Candidates for District Chairman must file a written statement with the District Committee, along with a filing fee of $100. Filings must be mailed or delivered to: 11th District Committee, c/o Paul Miller, 13620 White Stone Ct., Clifton, VA 20124, and must received by Sat., Mar. 6, 2010 at 5 pm (postmarks do not count).
