Campaign HQ:
All 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates were up for election in 2011. Republicans picked up several seats to to strengthen their majority in the House. Republicans have controlled the State House since 1999. That helped to provide some much-needed balance to Democrat Govs. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, and it now helps to promote Gov. Bob McDonnell's forward-looking agenda. The current breakdown (as of Dec. 2010) is 59 Republicans (plus 2 independents who caucus with the GOP) and 39 Democrats.
REDISTRICTING: Many House district boundaries have been changed substantially, as a result of legislative redistricting in April 2011. Some candidates have been moved into new districts. Voters should also check carefully to find out what district they'll be voting in this year. Our House district pages are being updated in early May, to reflect the new lines. (Information on previous district configurations is available here.) Next House elections: Nov. 2013.
